This sunburst mosaic floor rug sets a radiating gold medallion at its centre, built up in hand cut tesserae that fan out from a dark core like spokes of a wheel. Two griffin-like figures curl beneath the sunburst, and the whole central roundel sits inside a diamond lattice panel worked in warm gold and deep navy blue, with a matching lattice section below echoing the design top and bottom.

Layout: the piece reads as a rectangular rug, with a strong central medallion, a repeated lattice field above and below, and a scrolled border running the full perimeter.

Motifs: acanthus scrolls, small rosette medallions set into the corners and border, and paired mythical creatures flanking the upper and lower roundels give the composition symmetry along both axes.
